Hello Padawans. Welcome to your online sound training portal. Explore and enjoy. See ya Lewis.
Here you can find online ear training exercises. They are grouped by category so you guys need to focus on the sound category but you do have access to all of them. It has some short descriptions about audio terms but for more the learning side I suggest the youtube playlists below.
We have a school account you can use so that it you don't have to pay anything to have full access to this trainer - if you need help with your login send me an email.
Sound Training 1 - This is a playlist I've created to cover the basics of sound training. It does basic sound stuff as EQ and volume but introduces some more of the complex ideas around how sound works; with these things it isn't important that you understand them fully but rather than you are aware of them.
Sound Training 2 - Whereas this goes into more advanced stuff like different types of microphones, cables, dynamic processors (compressors etc) and reverbs.
These are the channels / playlists I have cherry picked videos from. Head here if you want more learning or you want to find the same topics from a different video to help better your understanding.
I recommend Audio Tutorials 1 - Dynamics. Good clear videos I just get fed up of the intro music.
Detailed videos about how things actually work by a creepy guy. All of the videos are good but I can only stomach so much at a time.
Not a lot of videos and a lot of them are included in the playlists above. There are some more that are more focused on sound sythenesis and production (electric keyboardness)
If there are any topics you feel are missing let me know.
By using Theta Music Trainer and these youtube videos you basically cover most of what SoundGym offers. However, this is the program I used to really boost my sound skill and has more engaging games than Theta. It is £115 a year (which is the same cost as 100+ people on Theta) hence why it is not my main recomendation. But if you want to get serious it might be worth it. Personally I regret never getting the full license I didn't know that I would want to still be using it after 4 years.
